The Deck House Restaurant and Cabaret Theatre is entering its twenty seventh season as one of New England's premier dining and entertainment establishments. Our original mission remains the same: good food, good service, and good entertainment. The "audience" generally arrives somewhere between 6:30 and 7:45 PM and orders from a full dinner menu (children's portions available on some menu entrees). Around 8:15, after most diners have been served their main courses, the houselights dim, and, while continuing service, the wait staff become the Players and present a "show" which consists of 13 individual numbers, a delightful mixture of solos, duets, quartets, and full group numbers.
The emphasis is on Broadway show tunes, but barbershop quartets, mime pieces, puppets, storytelling, and dance have also been featured. The Deck House Players perform "in the round" so nobody is more than four tables away from "the action." One of the unique elements of the Deck House experience is that customers keep their tables all evening - no rush or pressure to leave, and there is time between numbers for conversation or star-gazing on the deck over looking the harbor. There is on-site parking by car and by boat. Both the menu and the entertainment have consistently received high praise from the Bangor Daily News, the Ellsworth American, the Bar Harbor Times, and the Maine Times, and with several veteran staff and many fine new additions, we feel confident that this year we will be better than ever. We can honestly say that countless customers have characterized their evening at the Deck House Restaurant and Cabaret Theater as the absolute highlight of their visit to Mount Desert Island and Down East Maine.
